We're Will and Amelia, parents of three children from Brisbane, Queensland. When we started looking at schools for our daughter, we did what many parents do. We spoke to friends and family that had recently gone through the process, looked at websites, attended open days, asked our questions and generally tried to make sense of what various schools would offer and how that might best align to our daughter's personality and the educational outcomes we were seeking as parents. What we found was a lot of information about the schools, but very little that would help us make sense of where she was most likely to thrive.

We spent a lot of time and effort on trying to reconcile inconsistent, incomplete information on the options we were considering, and never feeling confident that we truly understood which school would bring out the best in our daughter, not just academically, but as a person.

School Compass exists because that process felt broken and harder than it needed to be. Not because there's any inherent problem with the schools, but because the data available to parents was built to rank institutions on a limited set of metrics and didn't give adequate regard to the child, their unique learning profile, extra-curricular interests, sporting capabilities etc., nor the priorities and outcomes we were seeking as parents. So, we decided to build the thing that we wished we'd had to help us make that decision. The fact remains, the school you choose for your child is one of the single most impactful decisions you will make as a parent. Our simple purpose is to help guide parents through that decision with confidence, based on a comprehensive view of the elements that matter.
